Two Rows in Two Months.

I finally finished my second row of my block coloured hexie yesterday.   We had the most horrendous winds blowing last night that damaged a lot of houses, saw the power go out to over 50,000 homes, closed the airport etc etc.....I can't knit when it's stormy for some reason, I find crochet more of a comfort.   So with the TV on loud to block out the noise of the rattling windows and the crashing waves of the bay, I crocheted lots of hexies.

I'm setting myself a Christmas target for this blanket, so 20 more rows in 12 weeks.  Achievable, what do you think?

Cheers,

  1. That is going to be super cute! I think you have inspired me to make a blanket for my kids. I wanted something different from granny squares.

  2. Oh Vicki we've got that horrid wind today here in Sydney! There were two spot fires burning on the side of the road whilst I was out and about today - People carelessly tossing out their cigarette butts and causing silly catastrophe's!

I am LOVING your crochet! This is going to be one gorgeous blanket! I'm working on my knitted one tonight and hoping the wind settles too :)

  3. Oh dear I hope that your house wasn't damaged in any way! Are high winds common in your part of Australia this time of year? Hope that you can crochet for fun today and not just for peace and calm!

Lovely, lovely hexies. I almost want to start yet ANOTHER project just so I can get into some hexagons myself but I'm trying to exercise self-control. 20 rows in 12 weeks is completely achievable in my opinion, crochet goes so much faster and it looks like you are a whiz at it!

    1. All is fine....although high winds aren't uncommon they're not an everyday event. We did have the highest recorded winds in 30 years, so at 100 to 143 km per hour, they were pretty fierce in parts of the state....we are expecting more today after a reprieve yesterday. Our weather in Australia is getting more odd by the year.....global warming?? Anyway that possibly means a bit more hexie work today!!

  4. Oh my, hope those winds have now died down... I'm sure you will easily manage those 20 rows! Even if I did manage to do the rows I would certainly not manage the tidying up bits and border... Good luck!

  5. Hello!

I've been crocheting for about a year now and I love reading crochet blogs. I can't believe I only recently found yours and feel so happy that I have! Your blog and crochet works are so very beautiful and you have a real eye for colors! I read through your posts and saw that you mention blocking your blankets after they are finished. Is there a reason why you do it and how do you go about blocking a whole blanket?? Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi and welcome, thank you for the kind comments....gosh blocking blankets, it's something that I've always done, I guess it stems from my knitting, which is my major distraction, although crochet does come a close second. Blocking just gives your blankets a soft drapey and professional finish. It also relaxes wool fibres. The fibres are always tight in wool, but blocking just relaxes and stretches out the fibres, thus making your work more pliable and soft. Blocking will also give you the added bonus of extra lenght and width if you want it....I do like to stretch my blankets as much as I can, and also it gives the added bonus of then seeing the stitch and pattern definition of your crochet work.....as far as a whole blanket, goes I just do it on completion, i don't block square by square just pins all the way around....maybe next time I do a blanket I'll do a post on blocking, then I can show everyone the difference. Stay tuned, although there may not be a blanket for at least a couple of weeks, Cheers, Vx
